Escape Characters

Explanation Of Escape Characters

Escape characters are letters or symbols that let you get out of the type of code you are currently in and put a symbol in the code that will not be interpreted as a computer language sign. For example if you are in the middle of quotation marks for a string and you would like to put the symbol "" in your string without ending the string you would use an escape character - in the case of Java backslash \. You would use the backslash and then put the quotes and the computer knows you actually want the symbol " and not to end the string literal.
